Mexican Authorities Return Body of Slain Cartel Boss 'El Mencho' to His Family

Mexican authorities have returned the body of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes — known as 'El Mencho,' the former leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel and once the most wanted drug lord in the Americas — to his family, officials confirmed Saturday. The handover comes roughly one week after the Mexican army killed El Mencho in a military operation, and as cartel violence continues to convulse Guadalajara and other cities in the power vacuum left by his death. The return of his remains is a gesture toward the family of a man whose organization terrorized communities, corrupted institutions, and trafficked drugs across the Western Hemisphere on an industrial scale.
