Chip-scale optical gyroscope measures slow rotation in laboratory tests

via Phys.org·11h ago

Phys.org, carrying an Optica release, reports that a silicon-nitride optical gyroscope measured rotation down to 37 degrees per hour in laboratory tests. Its sensing ring is about 24 millimeters across and uses CMOS-compatible processing. Researchers still need to integrate lasers and detectors, stabilize readings and test it outside the laboratory.
