Experiments find high-pressure magma can store excess oxygen

via Phys.org·2h ago

Science China Press reports laboratory experiments found basaltic melts can retain excess oxygen, with storage increasing under pressure. Simulations support a mechanism for transporting oxidizing material from deep Earth toward the surface. The authors suggest a possible contribution to ancient atmospheric oxygenation; the experiments do not establish its historical share.
