Astronomers Catch a 'Hatchling' Quasar Breaking Out of Its Dusty Cocoon

Using several powerful telescopes, astronomers studied a red quasar nicknamed "the Hatchling" at redshift 3.7 and may have caught one of the clearest examples yet of a quasar emerging from the dust that formed it. The observation fills in a stage of black hole growth that has mostly been inferred.
