The Pacific's Longest Predator Fence Is Protecting Thousands of Seabirds
The longest predator exclusion fence anywhere in the Pacific was completed on Kauai in 2022, wrapping 11,200 feet of barrier around 168 acres of prime seabird nesting habitat. The endangered ground-nesting species inside had been under constant pressure from feral cats and pigs. Several breeding seasons in, monitors are counting thousands of chicks in a colony that had been shrinking every year before the fence went up.
