Oregon's Fire Season Is Forcing Ranchers to Evacuate Their Cattle

Oregon is having an extremely active fire season, and some of the ground burning is critical rangeland for ranchers whose livelihoods depend on cattle. Moving herds ahead of a fast-moving fire is far harder than evacuating a house: there are limited trailers, limited places to put animals and a narrow window to decide. Ranchers describe losing not just this year's income but breeding stock built over decades.
