Pentagon breach exposes personal data of 2.76 million personnel

A Pentagon official confirmed that unauthorized access exposed Social Security numbers and employment information for 2.76 million living military and civilian personnel and 294,000 deceased people, Fox News reports. The vulnerability was discovered July 16 after months of access; affected people were notified September 18. The Pentagon says it has no indication the information was misused.
