Trump told reporters the United States now has "total control" over the Strait of Hormuz and suggested Washington might hold the waterway indefinitely. The claim goes well beyond earlier administration statements that a reopening deal with Tehran was close. Roughly a fifth of the world's oil moves through the strait, and shipping insurers are still treating it as a war zone.
