Elephant rumble choruses carry signals linked to group behavior

A study of 902 recordings from wild Kenyan elephants found that rumble choruses contain acoustic features linked to social situations, Phys.org reports. Some calls became more similar during exchanges, suggesting a role in coordination. The researchers did not conduct playback experiments, so how elephants respond to that convergence remains untested.
