Forest-soil tests link drying and rewetting to carbon release

via Phys.org·yesterday

Laboratory tests of Hokkaido forest soils found that repeated drying and rewetting increased carbon dioxide release, Niigata University researchers report through Phys.org. Buried soils released more than microbial biomass alone explained, suggesting changes to metal–organic complexes. Outdoor testing is still planned; the findings do not directly measure future global emissions.
