Magnetic Dopants Let Quantum Dots Use Light to Drive Chemical Reactions

Adding magnetic dopants to quantum dots lets the nanocrystals hold energy from absorbed light long enough to drive chemical reactions, according to new work. The approach targets a core inefficiency in solar-driven chemistry, where excited states normally decay before they can do useful work.
